Special cultural exchange program offered by GFN to young Nepalese who want to experience village life and contribute there.
GFN opens application for a limited number of participants who are not familiar to the culture and lifestyle of Nepalese in the villages.
As participants, often called GFN fellows, you are taken to selected villages in rural Nepal where they spend the time, like a family member with the local families.
We try to find host families for you where you could find a friend of your age, and gender, if you like.
You now are a 'member' of the family. You get to work in the fields, milk the cows, cook in the firewood 'ageno' and fetch water from the tap.
Fellows may also get to teach the local students about public speaking, career counseling, chapters of academic course books, technology and so on.
You are provided orientation or workshop for you to work on the mentioned soft skills before heading out to the villages. So you both get to learn and share.
You work with the local community fellows to organize various awareness campaigns about sanitation, health, entrepreneurship etc.
There are leadership hiking, competitions, social service activities, cultural programs for all the fellows to participate.
You are awarded and certified during the cultural program organized in the end. Everyone sings, dances and often cries while bidding goodbyes to the dear village, local students and hosts.
There is a win win for you, community fellows, local families, school and the entire community.
Go Gaunley is a week long cultural exchange program for young people from urban parts of Nepal. It’s a platform to understand our villages, know them and experience their lifestyle and culture. It’s a fun filled lifetime experience.
You shall be placed with a typical local host family so you could embrace and appreciate the typical Nepali village life – albeit for short while. Living a true village life means you are as well expected to help the host family with their everyday chores – from getting grass for the cattle to helping them out in the farm.
The program is also for you to learn various leadership and adaption skills. Training on various life skills, specialized in effective communication is provided to you by the GFN team.
You are then expected to give back to the local community as per the needs in the village and the expertise you have. It may range from teaching the local students as per their syllabus or engaging them in something extra-curricular to helping the local businesses have a better business plan and supply chain setup.
Alternatively, you may have your own projects designed for you and we may be happy to coordinate for you as you have envisioned.
Whats’s more for bonus? There’s lot of fun activities: hiking, fun filled learning based games, campfire, cultural shows and many more. We sit with you to design the activities on this front!
Participate in Go Gaunley and also polish your adaptability, leadership, networking and effective communication skills.
